Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow

Yesterday, the world was cold, dark and bleak
It seemed like the planet Earth had grown weak
Wars and chaos, time and time again we failed
To be kind, forgiving; surprise, curtain unveiled

Today, some of us try to fight hate with a flower
We show up, vulnerable, naked; that’s our power
We ask for respect, compassion, truth and purity
A world at peace, free of all its destructive cruelty

Tomorrow, I trust that I’ll run through fields of wheat
The sun will come out and I will feel its burning heat
I’ll spread my fingers and caress everything in sight
Hoping the world realizes its survival is worth the fight
